Abstract
Since Tanner (1963) introduced the mesh graft for the treatment of extensive burn cases and his own device of mesh dermatome which consists of two 4 inch rollers with cutting blades, there have been many studies and contributions to find out the advantages and disadvantages of the technic.
The adventages of the technic are;
1) Expansibility of the limited donor skin, able to cover two to three times of the recipient area,
2) Improved drainage of exudate and discharge which forms seroma and/or hematoma beneath the graft.
3) Easy adaptability to the uneven surfaces and irregular borders of the recipients, and
4) Requirement of less donor area and less blood loss during procedure,
and disadvantages are;
1) Unfavorable texture and appearance of mesh pattern and
2) Extra-maneuval at operating table etc.
Authors have deviced three kinds of mesh dermatome, types A,B and C, and used in the resurfacing 8 cases (10 procedure) of 3rd degree burn to observe the similar advantages and disadvantages of preceding studies, and to obtain the excellent results of graft-taking.
